*** Probably the most professionally significant activity of Dale O. Ritzel since 1999 has been his development and release of the first online driver education listserv (DE-L) in the world.  Starting out small on 1 March 1999, it has grown into a widely used resource for driver and traffic safety education professionals in the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Europe.  It was recently recognized by the American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association as the most significant technology contribution developed in driver education during the first decade of the 21th century.

Dr. Ritzel was the first person to develop Web based, distance learning courses in driver education.  He started this process in 1999.

During 2005, Joyce Fetro and Dale Ritzel developed HED 450 into a Web based course available for elementary education teacher majors.  Development in 2005 and pilot testing and implementation in 2006.

In late 2005, developed Web page for the Southwestern Illinois Occupant Protection Resource Center program.  Activity supported in part by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
