Getting a Driver’s License and GDL

2.      Novice Driver Education Curriculum topics (you downloaded a copy of this book in HED 302s.  This is a valuable source for the important topics to teach in driver education)

3.      State of Washington Driver Education Curriculum topics (review your copy of the guide which you either purchased at The Printing Plant for HED 302s or downloaded from the HED 302s Web site.   Also review and use the different units from the Illinois Driver Education which is available on the HED 302s Web site.  Also review the Oregon Driver Education Curriculum, probably the most contemporary today.

How the Illinois State Board of Education calculates certain costs to determine what school district driver education programs receives for reimbursement

Student Coursework Completion and Reimbursement (review Section 252.30 of the Driver Education Regulations) Review Driver Education Student Coursework Completion (blue slips) - User Guide for Electronic Submissions (this information starts on page 380 in the course material packet) and Driver Education Reimbursements - Web User Guide for District Inquiry (this information starts on page 442 in the course material packet).  The Illinois State Board of Education uses what they call the IWAS system of having public schools input information about beginning drivers and getting their instruction permits.  Also the IWAS system is used for schools to report student driver education completions.  Finally the information reported by the public schools into the IWAS system is used to reimburse them for students who complete the classroom and on-street driver education program.  At the public school where you are working with a Master Driver Education Teacher, interview the person who is responsible for inputting student information into the IWAS system (this maybe a driver education[s] or administrative assistant).  Have them show you how they work with the IWAS system.  Learn as much as you can about the IWAS system from the person.  Write a 1-2 page paper on how the system works and what you learned from this experience.
